4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION Please join your neighbors and the Pilgrim Gardens Civic Association in celebrating the Fourth of July at Aronimink Elementary School on Monday, July 4, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Registration for the bike and wagon decorating contest begins at 9:30 AM and the parade begins at 10:00 AM for children up to age 12. The event is free for 2016 members of the Association (forms will be available) or $3 for non-members. Complimentary pretzels and water ice will be served and prizes will be awarded. BETTERBALL SPORTS AND SPIRITUALITY CAMP For girls and boys in grades K-6 for an athletic and spiritual experience every day at St. John Neumann Parish, July 11 to 15, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. We have teamed up with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to provide a positive and encouraging atmosphere. MARY - A BIBLICAL WALK WITH THE BLESSED MOTHER Join us September 22nd through November 17th, on Thursday evenings from 7:00-8:30. We will gather in the Library which can be found on the lower level of St. Dorothy Church in the Annex. The Bible Study will not take place on the Thursday of Oktoberfest or the week of the Book Fair. The cost is $15 per person, which should be paid on the first night either by cash or check. This Bible Study is filmed on location in the Holy Land. It visits the most significant places in Mary’s life taking you though her joys and sorrows. Dr. Edward Sri provides expert commentary and unique insights on the Blessed Mother. We will receive a workbook which will give us Bible selections to read at home and questions to answer. We will discuss our responses in a small group setting and then watch a 30 minute video related to the Bible passages we have read, and review the answers to the questions as contained in the back of the workbook. DOT’S CHALLENGE The 19th Annual St. Dot’s Challenge will be held on Saturday, June 4th and will start at 9:00 AM with registration opening at 8:00 AM. “The Challenge” consists of the featured 5K Road Race, a 1-mile Kid’s “K”, and the Family Walk through the beautiful tree-lined streets of Drexel Hill. AID FOR FRIENDS Aid for Friends is in need of a Volunteer Evaluator for Delaware County to assess the needs of individuals who would like to receive meals. This task involves receiving referrals and visiting the referred person in their home to assess their needs, then either approving or rejecting their eligibility to become an AFF client/friend based on our criteria. You can do the assessments on your own schedule. We provide training, and Aid for Friends staff is always available to you. Also you pick the area or township that you feel comfortable serving. This volunteer position is critical to our ability to serve those in dire need in Delaware County. HELP DOCUMENT CATHOLIC HISTORY With the endorsement of Archbishop Chaput, History Making Productions (HMP) is producing a series called Urban Trinity: The Story of Catholic Philadelphia which will be broadcast on our local ABC affiliate during the week of the World Meeting of Families - Philadelphia.
HMP is interested in identifying and possibly using photographs and home movies that might include any of the following: Archbishop Prendergast, Cardinals Dougherty, O’Hara, Krol; Pope John Paul II’s visit to Philadelphia in 1979; sacred ceremonies including celebrations of a Mass, baptisms, confirmations, weddings, funerals; ethnic and community festivals and celebrations of Saints; Catholic community events involving senior citizens, Catholic Youth Organizations; images of well-known Catholic Philadelphians; and related materials.
